WELCOME!
Welcome back to the 2020-2021 school year.
To students and parents: I feel you. I see you. I share your disappointment, your frustration, your sadness and anxiety about all of the unknowns. In a time when we have so much to express, process, and cope with through music, we are told it is unsafe to do so together. If you'd like someone to talk to about this, I am all ears and am happy to feel with you, to let you know you're not alone in this.
In the fog of all of these unpleasant emotions, I also hold onto hope. I hope that this year will push us to be stronger, more creative, more effective, and more open as learners, educators, parents, and people. I hope that we will be more grateful for all of the programs and opportunities that we sometimes take for granted. I hope that we will be more open to connect with one another, and with ourselves. I hope that we will be more eager to take creative risks for the sake of growth. Lastly, I look forward with great anticipation to that first breath we will all take together, and the sweet sweet sound of us all singing and playing together.
The Band and Choral program is taking things day by day. Due to Public Health Guidelines, there will be no beginner band for the near future, no singing, and no playing instruments indoors. We continue to evaluate research and prepare solutions so that we may do these activities safely, and we will update families when clear information is available.
If playing and singing are not possible, other areas of the music curriculum will be emphasized. This may include any of the following: Song Writing, Composing & Arranging, Notation Software, Recording & Editing, Global Music Perspectives, Film Music, Music & Mental Health, Music Theory.
If you're looking for something fun, check out Chrome Music Lab. Works best on tablet or smart phone.
Be well, and see you soon.
